The second lady of the United States of America, Jill Biden was born on June 3rd, 1951 in Hammonton, New Jersey in the United States of America.

Jill Biden was born to Donald Carl Jacobs and Bonny Jean Jacobs. She happens to be the oldest of five sisters born to her parents.

She was raised in Hatboro, Pennsylvania, and moved to Mahwah, New Jersey, when she was eight years old with her family. The Mahwah Savings and Loan Association’s CEO was her father.

The Jacobs family relocated to Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, a Philadelphia suburb, in 1961, and Donald Jacobs became the helm of InterCounty Savings and Loan in the city’s Chestnut Hill district, serving in that capacity for 20 years.

Jill Biden frequently attended Sunday services at a Presbyterian church with her grandmother, even though her parents, who identified as “agnostic realists,” did not go to church. After taking membership classes on his own at the adjacent Abington Presbyterian Church, Biden was confirmed at the age of 16.

Jill Biden had a career in mind from the beginning. At age 15, she started working, which includes working as a waiter in Ocean City, New Jersey. She went to Upper Moreland High School, where she later described herself as being somewhat rebellious, enjoying her social life and pulling practical jokes.

In Wilmington’s public schools, Biden started her career as a substitute teacher before spending a year teaching high school English there full-time.

She worked for five months in Biden’s Senate office during this period, making weekly travels to the southern regions of the state as part of the senator’s mobile outreach program.

On June 17, 1977, at the Chapel of the United Nations in New York City, she and Joe Biden were united in marriage by a Catholic priest. This occurred four and a half years after the fatal car accident that claimed the lives of his first wife Neilia Hunter Biden and their infant daughter Naomi Christina Biden.

Joe had made multiple proposals before she finally said yes because she was first afraid to take on the responsibility of rearing his two young sons who had survived the tragedy and was wary of being in the public eye. She also wanted to maintain her focus on her own work.

Behind the Iron Curtain, in the Hungarian People’s Republic, they spent their honeymoon at Lake Balaton. Hunter and Beau referred to her as Mom and she raised them, but she did not formally adopt them.

She kept teaching while completing one course each semester at West Chester State College to earn her master’s degree. In 1981, she earned a Master of Education from West Chester with a focus in reading.

She subsequently went back to her job, instructing pupils with emotional disabilities in reading, history, and English. In the 1980s, she spent five years as a teacher in the teenage program at the psychiatric hospital in Rockford Center.

In 1987, Villanova University awarded Biden with her second academic degree—a Master of Arts in English. She declared during her husband’s failed 1988 Democratic presidential campaign that she would continue to work with emotionally challenged youngsters even if she became the first lady.

At Claymont High School, she was a teacher for three years. She taught English at Brandywine High School in Wilmington in the early 1990s; several of her former pupils there later recalled her as having a genuine concern for them. She worked for thirteen years in a in public high school.

Jill Biden worked as an English instructor at the Delaware Technical & Community College’s Stanton campus from 1993 to 2008. She placed a strong emphasis on building students’ confidence when instructing English composition and remedial writing there.

Jill Biden is the president of the nonprofit Biden Breast Health Initiative, which was founded in 1993 and offers free educational programs about breast health awareness to schools and other organizations in the state of Delaware.

She started the project after learning that year that four of her acquaintances had breast cancer. Over 7,000 high school girls were educated by the group on appropriate breast health over the course of the next 15 years.

In addition to being heavily involved in Delaware Boots on the Ground, an organization that helps military families, Jill Biden also co-founded Book Buddies in 2007, which offers books for children from low-income households. She runs five miles, five days per week, and has participated in the Philadelphia Half Marathon and Marine Corps Marathon.

Later, Biden went back to school to get her doctorate, this time under her birth name, Jill Jacobs. She graduated with an Ed.D. in educational leadership from the University of Delaware in January 2007 at the age of 55.

Under the name Jill Jacobs-Biden, her dissertation, Student Retention at the Community College: Meeting Students’ Needs, was released.

In Greenville, Delaware’s St. Joseph’s on the Brandywine, Biden frequently attends Mass alongside her husband. She hasn’t publicly declared that she is a Catholic or that she has ever undergone a formal conversion to the faith.

Jill Biden underwent Mohs surgery in January 2023 to have two basal-cell carcinoma lesions removed from the left side of her breast and above her right eye.
